Joy's Dream

The story begins

From a very young age, when you asked Joy what she wanted to be in the future, her answer was: «I would like to have a lot of money to have an animal shelter.» When she grew up the words changed, but the goal was still the same, to have an animal shelter.

Unfortunately, Joy left us too soon. She did not get to grow old; and she did not get to fulfill her dream. When she left, her friends and clients collected some money to pay the doctors and other expenses.

But an idea came up

Then I got this idea that the best way to use that money was by fulfilling her dream. (Bills can wait, but her dream cannot). With the help of people here and in Argentina (I do not want to give any names so that no one is left out and no one feels offended), we met Silvia from «Perros con Alma» Shelter.

Silvia/"Perros del alma" Shelter

Silvia is the personification of «big» Joy. That shelter and those dogs are her life. She knows each one of them (more than 200), the “pichichos” (as Joy used to call them), jump for joy once they see her. There are lots of dogs, and she tells you stories about each of them. Each one is her child. She is happy when they advance and saddened when impotence overcomes her for not being able to do more of everything she does. She uses all of her retirement money and her husband’s pension on the shelter.

That is how Joy would have been, that is how I would have liked to see her, fighting as only she knew how to fight for her ideals. She was consulted on the idea that we would create a shelter within a larger shelter to house a herd and that it would be named «Joy’s Shelter». Silvia was enthusiastic about the idea and gave us a space to build a shelter: «Joy’s Shelter» her dream has come true.

These were his words when we inaugurated the shelter

“Two dreams came true, mine to divide the field to build another herd and Joy’s, an angel who helped from a heavenly place to bring hers and mine together. Thank you to all those people who came together to make that special wish come true. This will be your little corner where you will shine your light on the herd that will be selected to enjoy the field and sleep in the cabin. Joy. kisses to the sky.»

The «Perros con Alma» shelter is an NGO that received government aid to pay only the three salaries of the people who work there. Today they do not even get that anymore. It has been a year since they received the subsidy. There are 200 dogs to feed and to take to the vet because in most cases, they arrive at the shelter in terrible condition, and Silvia, as Joy would have done, cannot turn her face away when an animal needs her.

Joy, your dream has come true!!!

Joy is no longer with us, and it is a huge void for all those who had the privilege of knowing her. For me, her absence is the greatest and deepest pain I ever thought I could feel. All I can do is to keep her dream and her memory alive. I ask those who are able and willing to make a monthly contribution in any amount they wish. Even if its $1, it helps to fulfill the two objectives: First, with whatever amount you donate, you contribute to buy food, medicine, medical expenses, and help offset shelter maintenance expenses. And the second, every month you see your bank statement, you will remember my Joy and you will know that dollar is helping to keep her memory and her dream alive.

Thank you very much to all those who can and want to collaborate!

There are more than 200 dogs that are in the Animal Protection Network «Perros del Alma» and in «El Refugio de Joy». Silvia uses all her retirement and her husband’s pension in the shelter, but even that is insufficient.
